Gore-Tex®

Gore-Tex® is the fabric of choice for outerwear, when you want the best combination of waterproofness, breathbility, durability, and lightweight. All manufacturers we carry who use Gore-Tex® material construct their garments to the highest level of detail. Gore-Tex® gear is designed to keep you warm and dry, day in, and day out, in the ugliest conditions. These are garments built for the most passionate, most inspired user. They are designed by professionals, but work for everyone who needs the best. Shells are differentiated from one another by specific features for different disciplines, but with versatility in mind. Marmot uses high tenacity yarns, new ripstop weaves, and new technologies like Gore-Tex® PACLITE, Gore-Tex® XCR to achieve the perfect blend of performance, durability, versus lightweight.

To be considered waterproof by Marmot standards, the fabric must have a minimum of 25 PSI on the Modified British Standard Suter (MBS Suter) using the water entry pressure test. In addition, all Marmot waterproof breathable garments must be fully seam taped.

Gore-Tex® Fabric - A microporous polymeric film of polytetraflouroe- thylene (PTFE) durably bonded to a wide range of shell fabrics. The pores are 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water, but 700 times larger than a molecule of water vapor. Gore-Tex fabric has the best combination of waterproofness, breathability, windproofness and durability available.

Gore-Seam Tape is specially engineered to withstand rigorous garment use and provide long-lasting waterproofness to all Gore-Tex garments.

  • Breathability: 2 layer Gore-Tex laminate has been measured by the Hohenstein Institute to have a typical RET of 55 (sweating hot plate).
  • Waterproofness: MBS Suter rating of at least 40 psi. You can kneel on Gore-Tex fabric in rain and snow and stay dry.
  • Windproofness: 0 CFM of air penetration, making it 100% waterproof.
  • Durability: withstands at least 500 hours of continuous wet flex and abrasion without leakage.
  • Water Repellency: Gore's durable water repellent finish (DWR) totally coats the shell fabric, is optimized for the shell fabric, and is renewable by heat in a home dryer. Marmot's choice of Gore-Tex laminates typically achieve spray ratings of 90-100 after 20 home laundry cycles.
